Welcome To Fawn...
Thank you for downloading "Fawn™", another in the fine line of Armadillo Games' Macintosh series. We hope that you enjoy playing it! By the way, "Fawn" is freeware, so you can (and we hope you will...) distribute it to whomever you choose, so long as you don't alter the program in any way, and you make sure that this "Hello..." file is included with the application. If you do play the game for any significant amount of time, however, we ask that you e-mail us your opinions. You don't HAVE to do this, but comments and/or constructive criticism are always appreciated! (Our e-mail address is located at the bottom of this file).

• System Software version 7 or greater

• This stack should NOT be run directly from a CD-ROM (copy it to your hard drive first) nor should the stack be locked
~ 68030 or higher processor (preferably a Power Macintosh)
~ 3.5 to 4 MB free RAM (just to be on the safe side...)
~ The following font: "Delphian"(included in the "Apple Font Pack" that comes with many new Macs)
~ FAWN LOOKS BEST IN THOUSANDS OF COLOURS!!! (If your monitor can't display thousands of colours, don't worry ... 256 is also acceptable)
About Memory...
"Fawn" will work if you have virtual memory turned on, however, it is recommended that you turn it off if you can for the smoothest possible operation. It is also recommended that you occasionally "compact" the stack. As you may or may not be aware, HyperCard stacks have a tendency to "grow" with use, eating up extra memory that they don't really need. If you compact the stack periodically (say, every other time you launch it) it will ensure that the game always runs at its optimum capacity. (The "Compact..." option is located under the "File" menu...) "Fawn" will also ask you if you want to compact the stack when you quit (if there is any free memory to compact).
How To Play...A Note From the Author...
Simply put, you control "Fawn" with your mouse ... there is no rapid button pressing involved. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of screens in the game: those where there are options available to click upon on screen (like when you are in a store or in battle); and those where the icon representing your character is visible. To move your character, simply click somewhere on the screen, and if he can go there, he will! The world of "Fawn" is presented in distinct sections, so clicking near the edge of one screen will take you to the next. Sometimes your party will be attacked, in which case the game will change to a battle scene, where you can choose to either fight or use an item that one of your characters is carrying.
On the screens where your character's icon is visible, you will also notice a small button in the upper-left hand corner of the screen that has the word "PARTY" on it. This is a "pop-up" button which allows you to select different members of your group in order to make use of one of their special capabilities, or to use/equip/drop one of their items (by selecting the "STATS" option). You can close the button that appears when you select a character by selecting the "CLOSE" option in their button.
Basically, I recommend that you experiment with "Fawn" to figure out all of the details, and if you have any more questions be sure to check out the "Fawn FAQ" which should have come with the game.
Version History...
•Version 1.1: Fixes some small bugs and inconsistencies
•Version 1.0: This is the first version of "Fawn".
We Need You!!
"Fawn" was created and tested on a Power Macintosh with 8MB of RAM and a Power PC 603 chip @75MHz, running System Software 7.5.3 with Sound Manager 3.1. If this is your hardware configuration, the game should work fine. If not, we at Armadillo would be interested to hear about the results that you have had with your setup. You can E-Mail us at the following address:

ENJOY "FAWN"!
By The Way...
Although this game is freeware, it is not public domain, and the author (Greg Gillis) would appreciate being informed of any compilation discs or similar promotional material being released that contain "Fawn" version 1.1. A complimentary copy of the material in question would also be nice... Please use the methods listed above to get in touch with him in such a situation...
